摘要:Symmetry stands as a cornerstone in condensed matter physics. However, while symmetry analysis provides invaluable insights, it often falls short of providing precise numerical values. Herein lies the complementary role of Density Functional Theory (DFT) simulations. In this talk, I will present our recent research endeavors involving theoretical studies of ferroelectric materials using the symmetry-adapted effective Hamiltonian method, geared towards designing strategies to control their collinear and non-collinear dipolar states. Specifically, the talk delves into two parts: (i) terahertz light-induced phase transitions and (ii) electric Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction. These studies unlock new functionalities and potential applications of ferroelectrics. Lastly, I will briefly introduce our state-of-the-art materials modeling approach, which is implemented in personally developed software.

简介:Peng Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Theoretical Physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) in 2017. Since 2019, he has been working as a Research Associate at the Department of Physics, University of Arkansas (US). Prior to this, from 2017 to 2019, he held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (Italy), and from 2015 to 2016, he was a visiting researcher at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (Luxembourg). Peng's research endeavors revolve around the intricate couplings of ferroic orders and light-matter interactions in functional and quantum materials.
